Biosketch

Jeffrey R. Miles, RHU has thirty years of experience working in the health insurance industry, and has since 1981 owned and led his own independent insurance agency. He joined the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) in 1981 and became active with the Los Angeles chapter, helping it to become the largest chapter in the nation. While serving as NAHU’s Regional Vice President, Mr. Miles established the California Association of Health Underwriters (CAHU), and served as President of CAHU in 1986-87, and was elected to serve as President again for the 2003-04 term. He has also served as CAHU’s Vice President of Public Affairs. During 1987-88, Mr. Miles served as Secretary/Treasurer and Chairman of the Federal Affairs Committee for NAHU. At the same time, he was a special consultant to the California Department of Insurance with regard to health insurance issues, as well as a Senior Management Advisor to Blue Shield of California and a member of the California State Senate’s Life and Health Advisory Commission. In 1990, Mr. Miles formed Beachfront Benefit Group (BBG), a benefits consulting firm specializing in self-funded medical plans, and assumed the position of President of the firm. In 1993, BBG became part of Centerstone Insurance and Financial Services, a national general agency representing dozens of health plans to independent brokers. In 1996, Mr. Miles took his fast growing agency business back to independent status forming The Miles Organization, Inc.

Mr. Miles has diverse expertise on health insurance, including political and public policy issues of the health care system; group health plans and ERISA; managed care mechanisms; self funding arrangements; purchasing cooperatives; health savings accounts; flexible spending plans; disability income (both group and individual); and long term care. Mr. Miles has been a nationally recognized speaker on the above matters. He is also a certified continuing education instructor for the state of California and conducts motivational and technical seminars for the agent/broker/consultant marketplace. He has been frequently quoted in the Los Angeles Times, Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley Business Journals, and the Orange County Register, along with industry publications such as Managed Care Outlook and in the “Visionaries” section of Managed Healthcare Executive. He has also appeared on the national CBS Morning News television, CBSnews.com, and Adelphia’s Week in Review television program. He is also frequently quoted on radio stations KFWB and KNX in Los Angeles. He is also a special consultant to Credit Suisse on health insurance matters.
