Biosketch
Susan Garfield, SM, MSc is a reimbursement and economics strategist with an expertise in women’s health. For over ten years, her professional career has focused on innovations in women’s healthcare, the economics of practice change, and the role of reimbursement and policy to the adoption of new technologies. Ms Garfield’s work has included economic modeling, payer coverage campaigns, market strategies for innovative technologies, health policy development, government relations, and creating partnerships between industry and advocacy groups. She is currently Director, Global Reimbursement, Policy and Economic Strategy at Qiagen Corporation. Prior to joining Qiagen, Ms. Garfield was a Director at Boston Healthcare Consulting. During her tenure there, Ms. Garfield worked with biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic firms to translate primary research with over 2000 clinicians, payers, government decision-makers and patients into actionable strategies. Projects included economic and pricing modeling, payer campaign strategy development, and market assessments. Ms. Garfield is a co-author of a Women’s Health collegiate text book, “New Dimensions of Women’s Health; 4th Edition.” Ms. Garfield received her Bachelors of Art in English and Women’s Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s of Science in Population and Development from the London School of Economics, and a Master’s of Science in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, School of Public Health. Ms. Garfield is currently ABD in her Doctorate of Public Health program at Boston University.
