Biosketch

Mr. Miller is an Assistant Professor in Health Policy and Management at Providence College. His recent research involved examining health services utilization through the statistical analysis of large secondary data sets including claims data, the assessment of hospital markets, and the impact of specialty hospitals. Between 1987 and 2002, he was a Vice President based in the Chicago office of Jennings Ryan & Kolb, a national management consulting firm specializing in health care organizations. He has worked in the health care industry since 1981. He frequently speaks for state and national organizations on the topics of strategic and financial planning, integration, and managed care.

Mr. Miller worked on a wide range of consulting engagements including financial analysis of hospital operations, strategic and managed care planning, physician integration planning, mergers and affiliations, specialty program assessments, financial feasibility and capital planning, and the facilitation of leadership retreats.

Prior to joining Jennings Ryan & Kolb in 1987, Mr. Miller was Director of Operations Analysis with Republic Health Corporation (now Tenet Healthcare Corporation) and held Manager positions with Amherst Associates Inc. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University and holds a Master in Business Administration from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Rochester. He received his doctorate in Health Services and Policy from the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa in 2007, with a concentration in Health Economics.
